Welcome to Version 5.0.0!

Welcome to V5 Denizens! Finally we've crossed a point where the new version is ready to take over and we can finally say goodbye to PHP-Fusion.

There will be some minor updates coming in the next few weeks to finalize some straggling features and tickets. Please raise any issues in the Help & Support forum.

Minor update deployed to prevent edit activities from being created if the same writing is edited more than once in a 6 hour period.

Updated to add a new feature; a Shift+Enter button has been added to the writings form for those formatting poetry stanzas on a mobile device. This will not be needed on other forms.

On smaller screens, the button may be collapsed under the three dots on the right side of the editor toolbar. Click that and look for a button that looks like an enter arrow.

The newest client is required. Once you've come back to the site after visiting previously, your client will notify you once it's downloaded the files for the new version. A blue message will pop up and tell you to reload. Click it and the new feature will be available.

In a new update today (version 5.0.33) I have released a new custom built editor based on TipTap, which is used across many popular sites.

Performance and privacy wise, this allows us to drop CKEditor which had added a logo to the editor to ping for usage and was very clunky. Removing it in favour of TipTap libraries shrunk the client size by 400kb. Almost a quarter of it’s total size.

The new editor has also moved the Shift Enter button to the start of the editor toolbar so it’s quick to find when writing poetry on mobile. You’ll also find some secrets with the typography component built in, which I do need to document, but it allows you to quickly add some hard to get characters like the © and ® symbols (create these with (c) and (r) respectively) amoung others, as well as support quick markdown to html conversion so you can use things like ``` to start code blocks and --- to add a horizontal rule.

If you’re curious and can’t wait for me to add something to the client, you can check the Typography Docs > https://tiptap.dev/api/extensions/typography
